Notify me when its in stockAfter a long wait, the Raspberry Pi 5 is finally here! This mini computing powerhouse is a game-changer, offering speed and versatility like never before. It’s a revolution in mini computing, offering unprecedented speed and a host of new features.
With a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, the Raspberry Pi 5 delivers a 2-3x increase in CPU performance over the Raspberry Pi 4! The Raspberry Pi 5 also brings a huge list of great new features and improvements, making it the best Raspberry Pi yet!
At the heart of the Raspberry Pi 5 is a new 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor, with encryption extensions, 512KB L2 per core caches and 2MB shared L3 cache, running at 2.4GHz.
This new Broadcom BCM2712 SoC (System on a Chip) delivers a 2-3x increase in performance over the previous generation Raspberry Pi!
The Raspberry Pi 5 gets a significant boost in graphics performance from the 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU, which is connected to the BCM2712 via PCI Express. It allows the Raspberry Pi 5 to deliver full dual 4Kp60 display output via micro HDMI. These performance improvements provide a smooth desktop experience when browsing the web and streaming video.
For the first time, this is a full-size Raspberry Pi computer using Raspberry Pi’s in-house silicon.
The RP1 “southbridge” provides the majority of I/O capabilities for the Raspberry Pi 5, providing a step-change in peripheral performance and functionality.
RP1 also offers a pair of quad-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers, tripling the total bandwidth and enabling new dual CSI/DSI ports that support any combination of up to two cameras or displays.
This, along with image performance improvements from the redesigned Raspberry Pi Image Signal Processor (ISP), opens up new project opportunities and major improvements for those using Raspberry Pi 5 for commercial and industrial applications.
Creators and enthusiasts have been using Raspberry Pi 5 for as long as we can remember. they wanted a dedicated onboard power button on the Raspberry Pi - and the Raspberry Pi 5 finally provides this much-desired convenience!
A real-time clock (RTC) built into the motherboard allows you to maintain time/date information even when powered off or not connected to the internet (with a backup battery connected). A special header has been added to the board to allow the use of a backup battery for the RTC (battery sold separately). A lithium battery with a compatible header will be available after or shortly after the launch of the Raspberry Pi 5.
The Raspberry Pi 5 includes a new dedicated fan header to the right of the familiar GPIO pin header, allowing you to connect and power a cooling fan without interfering with your GPIO-connected devices. Now you can add HATs and other hardware without the workaround of connecting fans.
Another useful addition to the Raspberry Pi 5 is the custom UART header. Now you can debug and control your Raspberry Pi 5 without interfering with your GPIO pins.
This dedicated UART header also allows debugging from boot and is designed to be used with the Raspberry Pi Debug probe for fast, convenient debugging.
