What is a Speaker?

 
A speaker is an output device that converts audio signals into mechanical vibrations and disperses sound in the surrounding area. Speakers are used for various applications such as home theater systems, music players, cars, conference rooms, and stadiums.
 
When it comes to speakers, there are two different types of products that come to mind. One is ready-to-use speakers that you can plug in and use or connect via Bluetooth. The other type is the actual speakers found inside the products mentioned in the first type. To use these types of products, you need to use an amplifier circuit and connect the speakers to the amplifier circuit. When this process is done, the product becomes the type mentioned earlier. :)
 

Speaker Amplifier Selection

 
Speaker selection should be made considering the compatibility of the amplifier and speaker. Speakers should be selected according to the amplifier power and speaker impedance. Impedance is the electrical resistance of the speaker and is measured in ohms (Ω). The amplifier can tolerate a certain impedance, and speaker selection should be made according to this factor.
 

 
Also, the sound quality of speakers is important. Speaker frequency response, sensitivity, and distortion levels affect the sound quality of speakers. Therefore, it is important to choose speakers that suit your music style. For example, you can prefer a high-quality subwoofer for bass-heavy music.
 

Why Do Speakers Produce Crackling?

Almost no one who uses speakers has not experienced this problem. There may be several different reasons for crackling sound coming from the speaker output.
 
  • Low-quality speakers: Low-quality speakers can produce crackling at high volume levels. This is due to improper manufacturing of the speaker.
  • Damaged speakers: Damaged speakers can produce crackling. Damages to speakers can occur with driver coil, diaphragm, or other components.
  • Mismatched speakers: Mismatched speakers can cause crackling. If the impedance of the speakers does not match the amplifier impedance, this can cause crackling.
  • Insufficient amplifier power: Insufficient power to drive the speakers can cause crackling. If the power of the speakers is higher than the amplifier power, they may crackle.
  • Environmental effects: Speakers located near electronic devices can produce crackling due to environmental electromagnetic effects.
  • Connection issues: If the connections of the speakers are not made correctly, they can crackle. Loose or incorrectly connected connections can distort the audio signal from the speakers and cause crackling.
 
Any of these reasons can cause crackling in your speakers. To prevent crackling, make sure to use high-quality speakers, drive your speakers properly, and regularly check your speakers by ensuring they are connected correctly.
