It is an LCD screen consisting of two lines of sixteen characters with black text on RGB LED backlight. The display is compatible for 5V DC and the LEDs have current limiting resistors for operation at 5V or lower. Any character is like an LCD, instead of sixteen interface pins there are eighteen. Pin 15 is the anode of the RGB LED backlight, then 16 through 18 are the cathodes for red, green, and blue. You can use the backlight like any regular RGB LED to create the color you need.
