Current transformers (CT) are sensors used to measure alternating current. They are particularly useful for measuring whole building electricity consumption (or production for that matter). The split core type, such as the CT pictured, is particularly suitable for DIY use, where it can be cut directly into the live or neutral wire. Works well with Arduino and Raspberry Pi. It is preferred due to its ease of use and can be easily integrated into many systems.
