What is Heat Shrink Tubing?
Heat shrink tubing is a type of extruded plastic tubing that can be cut to size and installed over a wire or cable joint to protect and insulate the joint. When heated, the tubing shrinks, creating a permanent protective seal. The amount it will shrink depends on the heat rate.
How to use Heat Shrink Tubing?
The diameter of the wire or cable is measured and the correct size heat shrink tubing is selected. A piece of tubing is cut long enough to cover the joint or seam after heating. This is then slipped over the wire. After the cable or wire is joined, the heat shrinkable piece of tubing is moved over the joint and heated until it shrinks and forms a tight wrap around the joint.
